Dear Friends,
As you may or may not know, the USPS has just concluded an Area Mail Processing study at its North Bay Processing and Distribution Center (PDC) in Petaluma, CA. The purpose of this study was to determine if some operations could be consolidated from Petaluma to the Oakland PDC. It is their proposal to consolidate the letter cancellations at North Bay to Oakland.
According to their proposal, they would be adding an additional $1.5 million in transportation–over and above what they already spend– in the North Bay (including Mendocino, Lake, Sonoma, and Marin counties) per year to facilitate this, with no guarantee that it will save money or improve service.
As you are well aware, residents of the North Bay enjoy and depend upon it’s uniquely diverse ecology…from vineyards, to wetlands, to farmlands. I don’t believe the USPS has fully taken into account the impact of adding all of this additional transportation to what is already an overcrowded and often gridlocked traffic network.
I would urge you to join me and many other fellow North Bay residents in sending a letter to the address below protesting this consolidation.
Sincerely,
Carl Matzen
Santa Rosa Resident
