Petaluma Tomorrow Endorses David Glass for Mayor, Janice Cader-Thompson, Matt Maguire and Cindy Thomas for City Council
Petaluma, CA - Petaluma Tomorrow announced today that it has endorsed Councilmembers Janice Cader-Thompson and Matt Maguire along with newcomer Cindy Thomas in the race for Petaluma City Council. Petaluma Tomorrow also voted to endorse Planning Commission Chairman David Glass for Mayor of Petaluma. Petaluma Tomorrow based its decision on written responses to a detailed questionnaire sent to every registered candidate in the Petaluma races and on the voting record of those candidates who have served on local agencies.
"We feel that these candidates best represent Petaluma Tomorrows principles of open government, responsible development and sustainable watershed management," said Dennis Teutschel, member of the candidate study committee.
In addition to chairing the Petaluma Planning Commission, David Glass is also a municipal bond broker who specializes in city finances. Glass is committed to using his municipal finance experience to getting Petalumas long overdue road repair and downtown redevelopment projects off the ground. Janice Cader-Thompson is a native Petaluman who has served on the council for four years. She is a key promoter of Petaluma's new wastewater treatment facility that combines the most cost effective design with a world-class wetlands park, tripling the size of Petaluma's popular Schollenberger Park. Cader-Thompson has also been a strong backer of Petalumas flood control project, designed to protect residents from future flooding and the high cost associated with such disasters. In addition, she has been a central figure in protecting senior citizens by upholding Petaluma's mobile home rent control ordinance.
"I am pleased to receive the endorsements of neighborhood groups like Petaluma Tomorrow," said Cader-Thompson, "because the only way we can solve our city's problems is by all working together."
Councilmember Matt Maguire has served the city for eight years and is looking forward to finishing many of the projects he has been instrumental in starting. Road repairs, completion of the wastewater treatment facility and the Payran Flood Control project rank high on his list of priorities. Petaluman Cindy Thomas may be a new face around City Hall, but she is very experienced in public affairs. Thomas is vice president of the Healthcare Workers Union, SEIU Local 250, serves on the Executive Board of the North Bay Labor Council and on Petalumas Animal Services Advisory Committee. Her focus is on health care, affordable housing, living wages and the environment. A particular benefit that Thomas brings to Petalumas often-contentious City Council is that she is a certified trainer in Mediation and Conciliation Services and teaches interest-based problem solving and consensus decision-making.
